Glendale, Calif.
"Avery Dennison is committed to collaborating with our stakeholders to help make our entire supply chain more sustainable"

The Avery Dennison Foundation has awarded a two-year, US$100,000 grant to BSR (Business for Social Responsibility) to help the global nonprofit business network dedicated to sustainability expand its successful HERproject programs in India and Bangladesh.

HERproject uses a workplace-based, peer education model to empower low-income women who work in global supply chains, build the capacity of local civil society; and increase advocacy with business and government. It includes programs to educate working women about budgeting, financial planning, and formal financial services and products, and to increase their awareness of health matters and access to health services. To date, HERproject has reached over 250,000 women workers around the world.

With the Avery Dennison Foundation grant, BSR will expand the HERproject in India and Bangladesh and begin exploring partnerships with Avery Dennison’s numerous suppliers to develop programs specifically for their female employees.

“Avery Dennison is committed to collaborating with our stakeholders to help make our entire supply chain more sustainable,” said Alicia Procello Maddox, president of the Avery Dennison Foundation. “We look forward to working with BSR and our suppliers to explore how we can support female empowerment efforts in India and Bangladesh.”

“With more information about health care, budgeting, how to save money, and how to use formal financial services and products, low-income women working in factories can make better health and financial decisions for themselves and their families,” said Nathalie Roberts, BSR’s HERproject Director. “We’re excited about the results coming out of our programs in India and Bangladesh, and we look forward to working with Avery Dennison to empower more women in these countries with much-needed resources.”

Avery Dennison operates multiple manufacturing sites in India and Bangladesh, where approximately 2,500 employees produce self-adhesive label and packaging materials and a wide variety of branding and information solutions for retail apparel and footwear. The Avery Dennison Foundation supports numerous community programs where Avery Dennison employees live and work.
